Admission Requirements

Oshio College or Acupuncture & Herbology accepts applications from all persons who have completed a high school education or 19 years old. OCAH seeks students who show the potential to become caring, dedicated and skilled practitioners of Traditional Oriental Medicine, and who can demonstrate the maturity and preparation necessary to undertake the challenges of the program. Hours of Instruction

Full-time students attend twenty or more hours of classes per week, which includes clinical training and study review.  In total, approx. 2,010 hours will be offered for the Acupuncture program (3 academic years),  approx. 2,730 hours for the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) program (4 academic years), and 3,435 hours for the Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine Program (5 academic years).

Academic Year

We enroll students three times a year, January, May and September. One academic year is 30 weeks. It usually starts on the first week of each month. New students are urged to register as early as possible. Late registration is accepted on special approval of the Principal only, depending on the space available. There is a two-week Christmas break and a one-week clinical assessment week in February.

Starting from September:

1st year: September to April

2nd year: September to April

3rd year: September to April

4th year: May to November

5th year: January to August

Enrollment for January and May classes is available. The students starting from January or May can take the advantage that the 5 year academic program can be finished within 4 years or the 4 year academic program can be finished within three years.

Starting from January:

1st year: January to August

2nd year: September to April

3rd year: May to November

4th year: January to August

5th year: September to April

Starting from May:

1st year:  May to November

2nd year: January to August

3rd year: September to April

4th year:  May to November

5th year:  January to August

Tuition Fees

 

All Diploma Programs are approximately 22 instructional hours per week for 30 weeks (an academic year). A credit hour is given for every 15 hours of classroom instruction, or for 30 hours of supervised clinical practice.  Tuition for one credit hour is $200 Canadian dollars.  For example, if you take 37 credit hours in the first academic year, your tuition in the first academic year will be: 37 credits X $200 = $7,400.

One thousand four hundred and ten dollars should be paid on the first day of the school year accompanied by six post-dated checks in the amount about $1,000 each, beginning the first day of the second month through the first day of the seventh month. Students who do not pay their tuition on time will be penalized.  

Students should make allowance for approximately $500 in book costs, workshops and student registration fees with the CTCMA per academic year.  These costs are not included in the tuition fee.

International Students

1. International student tuition will be the same as local residents.

2. International Students are requested to provide valid Student Visa to the College and update the Visa information before it expires.  

3. International Students are requested to pay the full amount of tuition stated in the Student Contract in order to complete the registration.

4. International Students are requested to sign an minimum of one year Student Contract upon registration.

5.  International Students are requested to enroll as full time students (in a minimum of 20 credits of courses per academic year)

Book and Supply Cost

Students should make allowance for approximately $300 in book costs and workshops per academic year, which is not included in the tuition fee.

Application for Admission

Interested applicants should fill out the application form for admission and send it to the College for consideration. A certificated of admission will be mailed to the accepted applicant as soon as possible. All applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application processing deposit of $100, which is not credited to the tuition.

Evaluation of Academic Achievements

Each student must attend classes regularly with a minimum of 80% attendance required in order to write the final examination for a given course. Students must achieve a minimum of 60% grade in order to pass and also achieve a minimum of 70% in the comprehensive graduation examination in order to graduate from the College.

Transfer of Credits

Transfer of credits from another recognized school of TCM may be accepted, but the number of transferred credits of one academic year should not exceed the number of credits (hours) normally earned by a student at the College in one academic year. The above rules and regulations are subject to review from time to time in order to maintain and upgrade the standards of Oshio College of Acupuncture and Herbology.

In order to maintain the standard of education in our program, we have established policies that will ensure the best possible care for our patients and preparation of our graduates. It is your responsibility to read and be familiar with these policies. Ongoing monitoring will occur to ensure the standards are met and the policies will be enforced.
